Walden, the Book...

"How many a man has dated a new era in his life from the reading of a book!"
  -- Henry David Thoreau

I was never assigned Walden in high school or college and didn't read it until I was nearly 30 years old. But, like a wise man once said, "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Henry's philosophies on life, his championing of truth, introspection, self-reliance, simplicity, and the divinity of nature has changed the way I look at the world.

In 2006, I began collecting different editions of the book and have, to date, accumulated over 130 unique copies.

Although I've had the good fortune to visit Concord and Walden Pond several times, I am by no means a Thoreau scholar or an expert on his life. But, I really like this book, and this site is an attempt to bring together all of the available information related to Walden.

If you'd like to simplify your life or need a new perspective on your place in the world, this book is for you! Parts of Walden can be a bit of a slog, but the wisdom that Henry hoped to impart on the reader is well worth the effort.
